Carlos Sainz had an impressive 2024 season. The Spaniard bagged in two wins and finished fifth in the drivers’ standings. With his eventual move to Williams becoming a reality, Sainz took up the opportunity to spend the last few days before the F1 world revs up to begin a season packed with action in Maldives.
F1 drivers spend most of the year racing around the world and have a packed schedule. This makes the winter break one of the few opportunities they get to enjoy the world outside of the paddock. Recently, Charles Leclerc had posted images of him enjoying the dusk in Mexico alongside his family. Similarly, Carlos Sainz went down the same path.
The Spaniard went to the island of Joali Being in Maldives to enjoy his time off the grid. He spent his time there playing tennis, snorkelling and having a rave around the tropical island.
On the other hand, Sainz would be endorsing Williams blue at the F1 75 event in London. His shift away from Ferrari was a tough one but he would be hoping to make the most out of his situation and climb back to the top of the grid.
Carlos Sainz to lead Williams’ resurgence
While moving to a back marker team is a challenging decision to take for any driver, the Grove-based team requires an experienced driver to spearhead the team. This would aid them to recover to their old form that had giants like Ferrari being scared around by their creations.

Subsequently, James Vowles knows the importance of signing a four-time Grand Prix winner in the form of Sainz. He elaborated upon how Sainz’s arrival is long-term vision and the Spaniard is aware of this, who would be wanting to turnaround the English team’s fortunes in the next few years.
What we can provide is this: he knows what we’ve got coming, certainly in ’26, ’27, ’28. We’ve given him some insight into all of that. It’s worth speaking to him over myself. Every time I talk to him, he’s actually quite motivated by what is coming in our future together and he can see the difference that he can make here.

However, the 30-year-old would have to certainly spend his 2025 campaign trundling the rear of the grid. He has proved his worth to the grid on multiple occasions and risks falling off the radar of the top teams if he is held back with inferior machinery. So, the Williams gamble is a high stakes one for Sainz as he has more to lose in this newly formed alliance.
