Carlos Sainz will leave his seat at Ferrari for Lewis Hamilton in 2025. He considered several teams, including Mercedes and Red Bull, but ultimately chose to join Williams. Despite Williams being far behind in the 2024 standings, Sainz explained his decision to favor them over more competitive teams.
Carlos Sainz explained that he visited both Mercedes and Red Bull, as they’re the top teams and talked about his admission. However, he realized that if he stayed with them, he might have to wait a long time or rely on others to make things happen for him. Sainz reckoned that joining these teams might involve delays or uncertainty about his future. Therefore, he decided to look for a different option.
I visited and had conversations with both Red Bull and Mercedes because they are the most competitive options. But as soon as I understood that I would either have to wait quite a long time or depend on others to make that happen.Carlos Sainz said.
Sainz explained that he didn’t want anyone to control him, he wanted to control his own future, so he decided to join Williams. He felt that by choosing Williams, he could make his own decisions and shape his career path without relying on others and win races with them in the future. Therefore, as he saw Williams were ready to sign him without any delay, he immediately opted for that.
I wanted to be the boss of my own destiny and I took that decision of going to Williams.Carlos Sainz added.
