Carlos Sainz joins Williams Raving this year after making way for Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari. The Spanish driver aims to help bring the British team back to the front of the grid. Now, after the first shakedown of the new car, he has given a positive response.
Williams held a surprise shakedown of its 2025 car on Friday. The Grove-based team provided a detailed look of its new chassis in a big launch event. With Carlos Sainz marking his on-track debut for the latest chapter of his career.
After the test, Carlos Sainz had conversations with team boss James Vowles and teammate Alex Albon. The 30-year-old revealed that the FW47 seemed to have a night and day difference compared to its predecessor.
According to Alex [Albon] and James [Vowles], it’s night and day. That’s why I wanted to make an emphasis on today.

Carlos Sainz makes bold claim over Williams’ confidence
The Spanish driver asserted that Williams was a lot more confident this year than its previous campaigns. Carlos Sainz pointed out that in 2024, the team couldn’t have even thought about holding a major shakedown in front of its various partners and media outlets. As such, 2025 seems to be a much better year for Sainz’s new squad.

Do you think Williams in 2024 would have been able to put [together] a day like today and be confident enough to invite you [media] and all of our big partners that we’ve recently announced to join us here? I don’t think so.
Carlos Sainz explained
Certainly, Sainz and Williams will be looking to make a mark in 2025. The 30-year-old will be looking to demonstrate that he doesn’t deserve to be in the F1 midfield. While the Grove-based team hopes to regularly fight for points over the course of the season.
