Charles Leclerc recently won the Monaco GP, his home race. This win brought the Monagasque ever closer to Max Verstappen in the championship fight, which spooled up rumors regarding a championship battle at hand. Subsequently, the Ferrari driver revealed that winning the esteemed prize had been his childhood dream, motivating him to perform to the best of his ability every day.
The 26-year-old joined the grid in 2018 with an ambition to become the first Monegasque world champion in F1. He then joined the most prestigious team (Ferrari) in the history of F1 in his sophomore year, and it seemed certain that his ambition would be fulfilled sooner than later. However, Ferrari had not been at the level they were in the 2000s, and his dream has so far remained unfulfilled.
On the other hand, Charles Leclerc then explained the driving factor for his success in F1.
So it's crazy, there are so many people involved, and whenever you achieve that as a team it's such an incredible feeling. Victory, the taste of victory is what motivates me. Every morning I wake up, and I think about that. Every day that is a bit more difficult to wake up and go and train, I think about winning a world championship one day and the feeling that gives me. So yeah, this is what motivates me.Charles Leclerc said on the On Purpose podcast
The six-time race winner claimed that victory has been the sole factor for his motivation at the pinnacle of motor racing. Furthermore, he admitted that he dreamt of winning the world championship every day and wanted to become the elusive prize winner soon. Leclerc is seen by many in the same league as that of world champions like Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
Ferrari’s ambassador claims the title race is unavoidable after Charles Leclerc’s win
As indicated earlier, Leclerc has been the lead driver at the Maranello-based squad and won his home race recently. Moreover, the Monegasque is just 31 points behind Max Verstappen in the interim standings. However, he claimed that he is not worrying about the title fight as of now, but things are quite different in Maranello.
Despite the 26-year-old’s attempt to extinguish rumors regarding the title bid, Marc Gene claimed otherwise.
I can tell you there’s so much weight out of his shoulders now. I could not have imagined going to Monaco next year and today something happening – it would have been unbearable. I’m so glad for him. I know we shouldn’t look, and Fred says don’t look at the championship, but it’s unavoidable. You look at the championship and 20 something points is nothing. But we enjoy that now and we’ll see what happens after.Marc Gene said in an interview with F1
The 50-year-old reckoned that after winning the race around the principality, a huge weight had been taken off Leclerc’s shoulders. He further claimed that despite Monegasque and his team principal’s attempts to calm down things within the team, the topic of championship glory had become unavoidable.
Nonetheless, a party must be going on around Italy as their rivals fear their car has hit a ceiling in terms of development. Moreover, if such fears transform into reality, then Ferrari and Tifosi might have the biggest smash-and-grab opportunity in the history of F1. The upcoming Canadian GP will be fascinating to watch for varied reasons.
