The Ferrari F1 team has been on a downward trajectory since the last few races. During Friday’s running at Spa-Francorchamps, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were not seen hugely troubling the top outfits, and after the session, the former stressed on finding a compromise on the SF-24.
The Maranello-based team is currently the fourth fastest outfit on the 2024 grid. Moreover, this was very much evident in FP1 as both George Russell and Lewis Hamilton managed a time better than the Ferrari duo.
However, Charles Leclerc managed to end FP2 with a respectable P4 finish.
It was a very difficult day to understand, to be honest, we’ve got to focus on ourselves and find the right compromise for tomorrow which will probably be wet, and Sunday which will be dry. We're on it, we still have quite a lot of meetings to go through and hopefully, we find a compromise for tomorrow and Sunday.Charles Leclerc via Racingnews365
Looking at the reaction of the 26-year-old, it is quite clear that he is immensely worried going ahead into the Belgian GP race weekend. Qualifying is just a few hours away and it is of utmost importance that Ferrari gets everything right to challenge for the top spots.
Charles Leclerc feels Ferrari is ‘struggling’ in comparison to McLaren
While Leclerc has urged Fred Vasseur and Co. to find a potent compromise keeping in view Saturday and Sunday, he also feels that SF-24 is nowhere in comparison to McLaren’s MCL38. The Monegasque genuinely believes the papaya challenger is better everywhere around the 7.004 km Spa-Francorchamps racing circuit.
The Woking-based team topped FP2 by a comfortable margin over the rival outfits.
We're struggling to McLaren a little bit everywhere. We don’t have any magical solution but we will give it our best. It’s the last race before the holidays so I hope we can finish on a high.Charles Leclerc said in the same interview
As things stand, Ferrari has slipped to third position in the 2024 Constructors Championship. The outfit is currently sitting on 322 points and is 16 points back from McLaren who has charged its way to 338. Considering this, it will be fascinating to see how Leclerc and Sainz would fare against the two McLarens during today’s qualifying session.
