Scuderia Ferrari driver, Charles Leclerc struggled to perform well during the Austrian Grand Prix despite showing good pace in qualifying and practice. Leclerc finished the race in P11 after a thoroughly disappointing afternoon for the Monegasque driver.
Charles Leclerc has been a formidable force this season and currently stands third in the drivers’ championship with 150 points. However, the Monegasque has suffered a dip in form and has scored only 12 points since his majestic win in Monaco earlier this season.
The 25-year-old driver has hence admitted to underperforming for Ferrari at the Red Bull Ring but is determined to focus on the race in Silverstone this week. Leclerc suffered unfortunate damage to the front wing of his car on lap one of the race in Spielberg, which proved to be a major hit to the chances of the Monegasque driver.
A very tough weekend. For today’s race, a damage to the front wing in lap 1 made everything even more difficult. However Silverstone is already next week-end and is an opportunity to bounce back.Charles Leclerc via Instagram
Charles Leclerc further said that the SF-24 had issues with bouncing across the high-speed corners of the Red Bull Ring, which made cornering difficult for the drivers of the Maranello-based team. Leclerc will now look to battle the likes of McLaren and Red Bull who have been in consistent form this season as F1 returns to Silverstone for the upcoming weekend.
Carlos Sainz claims deliberate changes might have triggered bouncing in Ferrari
While Leclerc had his issues in Austria, Carlos Sainz persevered throughout 71 laps in Spielberg to finish P3 on the podium after a difficult weekend. Sainz complained of issues with the car bouncing around the Red Bull Ring during the majority of the three-day race weekend.
We seem definitely to be a step behind Red Bull and McLaren in the fight with Mercedes in the race. In the sprint and in quali, I felt like maybe they had a bit the edge over us, but we did some changes going into quali that made maybe the car faster, but also a bit more on the edge.Carlos Sainz via Motorsport
Carlos Sainz earlier spoke of the need to make some changes in the car after the sprint race on Saturday to ooze out maximum performance around the high-speed circuit. But issues were reported by the Spaniard during qualifying, where the SF-24 seemingly bounced a lot around the high-speed corners despite being faster than their previous iteration of the sprint.
The 29-year-old driver, however, put on a tireless performance in a car that was visibly slower than the likes of McLaren and Red Bull to score his fifth podium of the season. Ferrari will now seek to regroup and revisit the issues that led to excessive bouncing around the Red Bull Ring in hopes of resolving the same for the upcoming race in England.
