Red Bull’s RB20 has given extreme struggles to Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez in terms of performance. The challenger has major balance and grip issues which are further exaggerated during races. Hence, Christian Horner has deemed all the problems to be due to the balance of the chassis after a woeful outing at the Italian GP.

Christian Horner didn’t hesitate to accept Red Bull’s shortcomings while developing the RB20 chassis. Speaking upon the Italian GP‘s disappointing performance, Horner believed it was all the fault of the balance. The Red Bull boss added that there was no balance between the front and rear halves of the chassis. Horner revealed that Max Verstappen couldn’t lean on the rear while entering the corners just like Sergio Perez.

It's 100% the fault of the balance. We don't have a balance between the front and the rear: Max can't lean on the rear when entering corners, just like Checo.

As a result, to fix these issues Red Bull had to compromise one thing or another. In this case, the solution to the problems caused understeer in the chassis which further created problems in performance. Horner believed that there was a very ‘fine line’ between the solution for the issues and them causing a chain reaction of other problems.

So you end up compromising, then you create understeer: it's a very fine line.

Christian Horner claimed that the wind tunnel didn’t simulate the issues on track correctly

Red Bull’s recent updates to fix the older issues were tried and tested in the wind tunnels beforehand. However, Christian Horner revealed that while loading the car the front and rear of the chassis got disconnected. Moreover, the wind tunnel simulation didn’t reveal these issues as the real-time performance was much different than what was anticipated.

The recent updates, while loading the car, have disconnected the front and the rear. We see it, our wind tunnel doesn't say it, but the track says it.

Red Bull might be ousted from the top spot at the upcoming Azerbaijan GP. The team must desperately rediscover their form for the last few races of the 2024 season. McLaren might overtake the once-dominant frontrunner with ease amidst such failure in performances.
