Red Bull was outpaced by Mercedes at the British Grand Prix, which ended in a 104th career win for Lewis Hamilton. The team principal of the Milton-Keynes-based outfit, Christian Horner, has thereafter deemed the race a weird one for varied reasons.

Lewis Hamilton won at Silverstone for a record ninth time in his career on Sunday, with Mercedes finally showing signs of competence against Red Bull for the first time this campaign. The silver arrows have been on the backfoot since the start of the season, with McLaren and Red Bull outpacing them on several occasions.

Christian Horner has hence spoken on Red Bull’s struggling run at Silverstone on Sunday, stating that both Mercedes and McLaren did well no matter the tricky conditions. Horner explained that the Milton-Keynes outfit was expected to come alive at some points during the race like most others but failed to do so in an unexplainable afternoon for the championship leaders.

It was a very weird race. I think if anybody can explain the pace of their car [the Mercedes] they would be doing very well because it seemed to move around. The Mercedes has always been strong in the cooler conditions, and they looked to have things pretty much in control. Then Lewis came alive as it started to rain, and then the McLaren really came alive and passed both of us.

The British Grand Prix offered a taste of the ever-improving form of Mercedes and McLaren while also showing that Red Bull is very much vulnerable this season. The upcoming races in Budapest and Spa will witness a fiery competition between the three teams, who will be looking to add more wins to their respective tallies.

Daniel Ricciardo’s ‘big hole’ hopes amid poor performance at Silverstone

While Horner has shown concern around Red Bull following Silverstone’s race, RB’s (Red Bull sister team) Daniel Ricciardo failed to deliver yet again (P13). The eight-time race winner was outpaced by the likes of Williams Racing at Silverstone, which made him speculate about some underlying issues with his car.

Hopefully there’s a big hole in my car that I haven’t seen yet, and that’s the reason why we’re really slow. We honestly, just as a team, for sure we struggle here. Looking at the Williams at the end on that stint, and Sargeant pulled away from me and I believe [Alex] Albon came and passed Tsunoda.

Daniel Ricciardo has been far from his impressive this year, the 34-year-old has amassed a mere 11 points in 11 races this campaign. Ricciardo has desired a return to Red Bull for a long time now but has not been able to prove his worth on the track since his return to the grid last year.

The eight-time race winner has concluded that RB was not at its best at Silverstone and will need to figure out and address its issues. Going forward, Riccardo will look to chart more points and better performances on board for the Red Bull sister team if he wishes to secure a move to the Austrian outfit in 2025.
