Max Verstappen stirred another controversy at the season finale in Abu Dhabi. The Dutch driver lashed out on race control after being penalized for making contact with Oscar Piastri. Now, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has come to the rescue of the four-time world champion.

The 27-year-old labeled Stewards as ‘stupid idiots’ after getting a ten-second time penalty. Max Verstappen had spun out after colliding with Piastri at Turn 1. Oscar Piastri was fuming after losing several positions due to the Red Bull driver.

Christian Horner made it clear that players and sportsperson often express their frustration in heated moments. The Briton reckoned that if Football players had microphones, fans would hear interesting words every time they were informed of such a punishment. While in Formula 1, a driver’s team radio messages are available for all viewers to hear.

I’m sure in any sport that there will always be frustration from players or sports people in the heat of the moment. When you’re delivered a message about a penalty like that, in other sports if footballers had microphones on, I’m sure there’d be a few choice words as well.

Horner pointed out that Formula 1 gives virtually limitless access to fans. Drivers are always giving interviews or answering questions before and after a race.
