Red Bull replaced VCARB’s driver Daniel Ricciardo with Liam Lawson for the rest of the 2024 season, citing poor performances and failure to regain his form. However, team principal Christian Horner hopes Ricciardo will stay connected with the Milton Keynes-based team. The 50-year-old also did not rule out the possibility of the Australian taking a significant role in the future.

Red Bull has clearly expressed its desire to maintain a connection with Daniel Ricciardo despite his departure from the team. Christian Horner is interested in keeping him in an ambassadorial role and exploring future opportunities within its racing structure. They have also left the door open for Ricciardo’s return in case any of the current drivers underperform.

We’ve made it very clear that we want him to remain in an ambassadorial capacity with the team, and of course one never really knows.

Christian Horner said on F1 nations Podcast

Horner clearly stated that if Liam Lawson and Sergio Perez fail to demonstrate their capabilities, they could find themselves sidelined. He confirmed that the organization will explore alternatives if either driver struggles.

I mean, if Liam doesn’t get the job done, if Checo doesn’t get the job done, we know what Daniel’s capability is.

Christian Horner asserts ‘nothing changes’ if Sergio Perez performs consistently

Sergio Perez started the 2024 season strongly, consistently finishing in the top three in the first five races. However, his performance began to decline soon after and he has struggled to regain his form. Despite Red Bull announcing a contract extension to motivate him, the situation remained unchanged.

After 18 races, Perez’s form hasn’t improved. Horner stated that if Perez rediscovers his form, no changes will be made to the team’s roster. However, if the Mexican continues to struggle, Red Bull will reconsider his place in the team.

Obviously if Checo finds his form and rediscovers the shape he was in at the beginning of the year, nothing changes.

Christian Horner expressed

Sergio Perez has six more races to prove his worth to Christian Horner and the team. In the recent Azerbaijan GP, he was in contention for a podium finish before Charles Leclerc overtook him. He then battled Carlos Sainz for P3 but their crash ruined his opportunity to get a good result under his belt.
