McLaren achieved a highly successful outing in the 2024 season after winning the constructors’ championship. Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris maximized points over the weekend and ultimately led the team to success. Hence, amidst the preparations for the 2025 season, Christian Horner revealed Woking’s ‘advantage’ over the rivals.
Max Verstappen tried his best to score points while Sergio Perez’s failing performances led to the team’s imminent downfall. McLaren, despite winning dominantly, came close to losing the championship lead to Ferrari. However, Christian Horner believed that the two young drivers at Woking scoring consistent points was a highly positive point.
Horner pointed out how Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris both scored points over the race weekends and had six victories against Red Bull’s nine. The 51-year-old noted that two cars starting on the front row of the grid was an ‘enormous benefit’ that couldn’t be underestimated.
Oscar Piastri confident of ‘avoiding Senna vs Prost’ debate with Lando Norris
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have come close to one another on track and have battled with one another for race wins. As a result, a majority of people believed that the two McLaren drivers would repeat Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost’s situation when the two had a fallout within the team.
Piastri was confident that this situation wouldn’t be repeated at McLaren this time around. The Aussie reckoned that it would be great to repeat Senna and Prost’s success with the team. However, the incidents from back then wouldn’t be recreated with Norris.
McLaren will have to keep up with a similar pace of development through the 2025 season to win the championship again. The coming season will witness multiple teams fighting for both the championships as the playing field seems leveled now.
