Red Bull faced significant performance issues in the 2024 season. The team also disappointingly lost the constructors’ championship against McLaren and Ferrari. Despite the tragic performance of the RB20 challenger, Christian Horner seems confident in the team’s progress with the RB21 over the winter break.
Max Verstappen showcased his utter disappointment in the RB20 chassis on multiple occasions throughout the 2024 season. The team reportedly ignored the Dutchman’s feedback which led to the imminent struggle. Now, Christian Horner claims that the team worked hard on the ‘vices’ of the RB20.
The team have worked very hard over the winter to work on some of the vices of RB20.
Christian Horner told Auto Motor und Sports.
Horner recalled the latter half of the 2024 season where Verstappen scored a couple of dominant race wins. The Red Bull believes that the team improved in performance during the latter third of the previous year. However, the 51-year-old questions the team’s chances of going a step further during the early stages of the 2025 season.
We managed to improve them during the course of the latter third of last year. We’ll see if we’ve managed to go a step further over these early races.
Christian Horner added.
Max Verstappen calls out Red Bull to ‘focus on’ themselves
Red Bull has undergone massive personnel change for the 2025 season, especially in the drivers’ lineup with Liam Lawson. The rookie showcased great speed with Red Bull’s junior team RB during his debut. Hence, amidst the high expectations of Milton Keynes, Max Verstappen called out the team to focus on themselves.

The Dutchman believes that there is no point in looking at the rivals to fix their own issues. Verstappen accepts that the Austrian constructor had many things to work on in their car.
We just have to focus on ourselves, like there’s no point to look at others. We know that we have things to work on with the car, and that’s what we are doing.
Max Verstappen told Planetf1
The 2025 season might be a big question mark for Red Bull as the performance issues could still carry over. Regardless, the team must find massive ground in order to enable Verstappen’s championship chances. The Austrian constructor will fire all engines as the pre-season test is right around the corner with the first race being under a month away.
