Max Verstappen‘s struggles in performance in the 2024 season caused an agitated reaction from him. The Dutchman faced multiple unnecessary penalties and went on a mini protest against the stewards. Recently sacked Johnny Herbert was the one under massive fire due to his alleged British Bias, particularly against the Dutchman. Christian Horner refused to put Verstappen’s issues as the reason behind Herbert’s axe from Formula 1.
The FIA and Formula 1 were the center of multiple controversial situations among the drivers. The sport was suspected of a nationality bias as Max Verstappen berated the situation continuously. Following Johnny Herbert’s sacking, Christian Horner cleared that Verstappen had no involvement in the matter. Moreover, the 51-year-old labeled the sacking as ‘absolutely right’ due to Herbert’s close and ‘inappropriate’ links with the media.
Christian Horner further berated Herbert’s way of governing the races back in the 2024 season. The Briton was sacked from Formula 1 due to his ‘incompatible’ work with the media. The Red Bull boss claimed that one needed to be either on the sport’s side or of the media. The steward tried to be on both sides which caused his imminent exit.
Johnny Herbert to ‘criticize anyone’ if he feels it is warranted
Johnny Herbert shared his side of the story after being sacked from the pinnacle of motorsport. Herbert reckoned that everyone was entitled to their opinions and questioned why he couldn’t have one. The Briton highlighted that Formula 1 had been his world for the past 50 years and felt the compulsion to comment if he felt something was wrong. The 60-year-old assured that he would criticize anyone and not only Max Verstappen when he felt so.
Formula 1 has continued to grow in terms of popularity in recent years and will have to work on such issues in a better manner. The stewards have continued to gain more power in terms of enforcing the rules and regulations due to the massive backlash. Hence, the coming time might be better for not only the stewards but also the drivers amidst the changing rules.
