Red Bull team boss Christian Horner believes Sergio Perez struggles more than Max Verstappen to handle the RB20 when it’s not performing at it’s peak. It was clearly visible during Canadian GP how Max Verstappen managed to win the race despite facing issues with the car while Checo did not finish the race.

Despite these setbacks Christian Horner is confident that the Mexican will rediscover his form back on tracks which will suit RB20 better. The 50-year-old reckoned, the reason for Sergio Perez‘s bad performance was influenced by several things including the problem he had to face during qualifying sessions which did affect his performance.

It was a combination of factors. We had an issue in qualifying that contributed a little to it, and plenty for him and the team to look at to get him back into that window as we head back to Europe.

Horner claimed that a lot of improvement for Sergio Perez and a team review was necessary at this point as the 2024 F1 season is heading towards the European leg. The 50-year-old admitted that it took Checo a longer duration to adjust with the car comfortably.

He obviously struggles with when the car isn’t behaving well, he struggles more to adapt. It perhaps takes him longer.

Christian Horner urges Sergio Perez to bounce back after DNF in Canadia

The Briton reckoned, it’s important for Sergio Perez to forget everything happened back in Canada and focus on challenges coming towards him in Barcelona. The team continues to have complete faith in the Mexican driver that he will bounce back from the misfortunes in Montreal. Milton Keynes was counting on him to perform best in the upcoming races.

We know that he’s very capable of doing that and I’m sure he’ll come back fighting hard in Barcelona.

Further Horner explained the importance of scoring points to win the constructors championship and expressed. They were fortunate Ferrari couldn’t score any points in the last race, which could’ve affected their standings. Therefore, it’s crucial for Sergio Perez to regain his lost form and contribute some points, as he did in the first four races of the season.

We were lucky that Ferrari didn’t score any points – they could have taken a lot of points out of us in the constructors’ – so we need him up there scoring as he was in the first four races.
Christian Horner expressed

Overall, Red Bull remains confident in the abilities of Sergio Perez to comeback refreshed and ready to fight hard in the upcoming races, which will ultimately help him and the team to secure points in both constructors and drivers championship.
