Red Bull has started to suffer from major performance degradation mid-way through the 2024 season. Milton Keynes is continuously losing ground to McLaren in the constructors’ championship and is a desperate need of a comeback in pace down the season. However, Sergio Perez‘s failing performances have further caused problems for the team in their battle against the Woking-based outfit.
Red Bull might oust Sergio Perez in the coming season amidst failing performances despite a contract extension. Helmut Marko noted on two different occasions that the Mexican driver would be ‘evaluated’ and his future in the team would be decided after the Belgian GP. Subsequently, Red Bull boss Christian Horner has also shared his opinion on the status quo.
Christian Horner reckoned Perez’s future in Red Bull is currently in his own hands. Horner added the 34-year-old has to have a good weekend in Belgium to revive any chances of staying in the team. Additionally, the 50-year-old pointed out that Milton Keynes ‘needed’ the points from Perez due to the team losing out to McLaren.
Checo’s future is in his hands. He has to have a good weekend, because we need his points for the constructors’ championship and McLaren has recovered a lot in the last races.Christian Horner said in an interview with Sky Sport Italia.

Christian Horner claims Red Bull needs to ‘defend’ the championship down the 2024 season
Red Bull doesn’t have any underlying threats from Ferrari currently amidst their struggles. Hence, the team will have to shift their entire focus to fending off against the papaya outfit. Additionally, Milton Keynes no longer has the comfort of the fastest chassis on the grid this year.
As a result, Christian Horner noted that the team will have to ‘defend’ the championship down the season alongside Sergio Perez.
We need him to get back to the level of form he showed in the first four or five races. For the next 11 races we need to defend the constructors’ title and therefore we need two drivers who can both score points, so experience is important.Christian Horner added.
The Austrian constructor has continued to upgrade their disappointing chassis despite failing performances. However, Max Verstappen‘s dreams of the winning Belgian GP has taken a massive hit as he faces a ten-place grid penalty. Regardless, Red Bull will continue to give it their all to continue to lead both the championships.
