Red Bull has continued to face massive issues ever since the beginning of the 2024 season. The mass exodus at Milton Keynes continues despite the team seeming to stabilize now. Hence, amidst the ongoing issues, George Russell had talked about the team’s engineers wanting to join other teams. Red Bull boss Christian Horner took offense to these comments and responded sternly to Russell.

Mercedes suffered from a rollercoaster of performance in the 2024 season despite facing some moments of extreme highs. Brackley still has a lot of work pending in order to contend for the world championship. As a result, Christian Horner noted that if he were George Russell he’d be more worried about other issues over the latter’s remarks. Moreover, the 51-year-old questioned which teams offered better opportunities to the engineering crew as they were already on a long-term deal with Red Bull.

I’d be more worried about other issues if I was George. I don’t know where he thinks and who he thinks they were offering their services to, but all the key people have made long-term commitments to the company.

Horner especially recalled Max Verstappen‘s race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase who was locked in with Red Bull for the long term. The team principal asserted that multiple other key figures in the engineering team were loyal to Milton Keynes. The Briton reiterated the ‘long-term’ contracts that these engineers had with the constructor in Formula 1.

If you look at people like [Gianpiero Lambiase], and the key members of the engineering team, they are all on long-term contracts.

Christian Horner reveals the ‘less pleasant’ side of Formula 1

Red Bull’s issues continued throughout the 2024 season without any significant improvements in pace. Hence, Christian Horner noted that the less pleasant side of Formula 1 was the lengths that the rivals went to capitalize on other teams’ issues. Horner recalled that Milton Keynes dominated the entirety of the 2023 season and suffered from a rough patch this time around.

One of the less pleasant sides of the business is the lengths that will be gone to try and capitalise on other issues in other teams. You have to remember that we came off a season where we didn’t just dominate, but we annihilated the opposition in 2023, and won 22 of 23 races.

Christian Horner noted

Milton Keynes has undergone a massive personnel change due to multiple key figures leaving the team. The team will have the task to not only deem a better start to the upcoming season but also take in learnings for the regulation changes of the 2026 season. Hence, the team must find major improvements if they want a realistic shot at the constructors’ championship.
