Red Bull has finally extended Sergio Perez‘s contract for the next two seasons. The Mexican driver has raced for the Austrian team since 2021. However, Checo had often failed to give consistent results. Nevertheless, Milton Keynes has continued to put faith in the 34-year-old. Team Principal Christian Horner opened up on this decision.
It was believed that Red Bull could potentially sign Carlos Sainz to replace Sergio Perez. However, in the past few days, reports emerged that Checo was on course to get a new deal. Christian Horner claimed that it was the right time to announce Red Bull’s 2025 line-up. With the Austrian team being pleased with the Mexican driver’s performances.
Now is an important time to confirm our line-up for 2025 and we are very pleased to continue working together with Checo.Christian Horner told Redbullracing.com
Horner emphasized on continuity and stability at Milton Keynes. Subsequently, the Briton highlighted that Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez form the most successful driver pairing in Red Bull’s history. As the two drivers secured a 1-2 finish in the championship last season.
Continuity and stability are important for the team and both Checo and Max are a successful and robust partnership, securing our first ever one-two finish for the team in the championship last year.Christian Horner explained
Red Bull confident Sergio Perez will improve his results in the coming races
Sergio Perez secured a handful of second-place results at the start of 2024. However, Checo has failed to continue this form in recent races. This could be a severe threat to Red Bull in the championship with Ferrari and McLaren returning to the front of the pecking order.
Christian Horner admitted that Perez has had a tough few races. The Red Bull team boss assured that Sergio Perez will return to his proven form and performance as the team had witnessed in the past. Horner even claimed that the challenging races were because of the inevitable convergence on the grid.
The past few races have been tough, there is convergence on the grid, but we are confident in Checo and look forward to his return to proven form and performance, that we so often see.Christian Horner asserted
Certainly, Sergio Perez’s future is now secure with a two-year Red Bull contract. The Mexican driver can now focus completely on his on-track performances. This could allow the 34-year-old to race freely and as such, bounce back after a few difficult races. However, it remains to be seen how Perez performs in Montreal this weekend.
