Damon Hill recently quit Sky Sports as an F1 presenter after working with the firm for over a decade. The Briton remained a prominent presenter despite making multiple controversial takes throughout his broadcasting career. Recently, Hill has revealed the underlying truth behind his departure from Sky.

Damon Hill‘s recent controversy arose after he compared Max Verstappen to the fictional character Dick Dastardly while discussing Red Bull’s approach to battling Lando Norris at the Mexican GP. Jos Verstappen took offense to the remark and openly condemned Hill. The 64-year-old later revealed that he had been sidelined by Sky Sports for most of the 2024 season.

I think I felt like the end was coming anyway, because I was kind of pushed back all last year.

Damon Hill told Telegraph.

Hill pointed out that he covered the less attractive races while the younger squad of presenters at Sky received better opportunities. The 64-year-old noted that the young lineup in Nico Rosberg and Jenson Button was closer to the ‘front line’ than him. Moreover, the Briton asserted that there was an ‘eye candy’ factor behind his sacking from Sky Sports.

I was doing the less attractive races. And they’ve got younger, fresher names. They’ve got Jenson [Button], they’ve got Nico [Rosberg]. And that’s fair enough. I completely get it. They’re closer to the front line than I am. And it’s TV. There’s got to be a bit of eye-candy factor to it.

Damon Hill hits back at Red Bull and Max Verstappen for not taking criticism

Damon Hill was also accused of a nationality bias over the 2024 season by Max Verstappen and Co. Hill slammed the Austrian constructor and highlighted that the team disliked criticism of the Red Bull ace. The 64-year-old further insisted that the team viewed Sky Sports as British-centric and biased which wasn’t the truth. As such, Hill labeled the whole situation that potentially cost him his job as ‘unfair’.

Red Bull fight their corner very forcefully and they don’t like criticism of Max. And they didn’t like, particularly, some of the things that were said. On the whole they’ve always taken the view that Sky are British-centric and biased, which is really unfair I think. Actually I think there is a desire [the other way].

Damon Hill noted

Sky Sports will continue their coverage with the younger lineup despite the incessant accusations of British Bias. Hill remains a prominent figure on Social Media, especially on Instagram and X. Hence, the 64-year-old is likely to put forth his opinions on the sport on the same. Time will tell if the Briton decides to join another firm or remain an independent reporter of Formula 1.
