Daniel Riccardo joined VCARB (AlphaTauri in 2023) midway through the 2023 Formula 1 season replacing Nyck De Vries. Since then, the Australian has been working diligently to lead the team and help them develop and improve their car with his experience. But, after a strong start he too failed to keep up with his teammate Yuki Tsunoda.
Following the start of the 2024 F1 season Yuki Tsunoda has had better of the eight-time Grand Prix winner at majority of the races unlike last season. This has led to a lot of criticism coming the way of the 34-year-old. Recently Daniel Ricciardo revealed that his teammate has been benefiting from his inputs, and his car setup.
The Australian revealed how his brilliant weekend in Mexico last season, wherein he qualified P4 and ended the race P7 was something that intrigued his younger teammate. Following this, the Japanese driver is supposedly now driving almost the same setup as his experienced teammate.
Mexico last year, we made a bit of a breakthrough with set-up. After that very good weekend, I think definitely made Yuki quite curious with our way of driving the car and setting it up, and naturally he's come closer to that. Now we are actually running the car very similar and I think he's found comfort in what I found comfort in last year.Daniel Ricciardo via Speedcafe.com.
The entire revelation is definitely something interesting, and with his brilliant weekend in China, before Lance Stroll crashed into him, Daniel Ricciardo will definitely want to continue improving the setup of his car and his good form.
Daniel Ricciardo claims Yuki Tsunoda is not doing “anything crazy” in 2024 F1 season
Throughout the first 4 rounds of the 2024 F1 season, before the race in Shanghai, Yuki Tsunoda has been quicker than Daniel Riccardo. The Japanese driver has been putting in brilliant drivers and also obtained points in Australia and Japan. But, even after all of his good performances, Ricciardo believes it is nothing special.

He's adapted well to that and he's driving well. He's doing good. I don't want to say… He's not doing anything crazy, but he's doing very good.Daniel Riccardo said.
The eight-time Grand Prix commended his teammate first, saying how Tsunoda had gotten really confident with the car, but concluded by saying it’s not anything crazy, or out of the ordinary. The Australian will definitely want to back these comments up by performing well in the upcoming race in Miami.
