The 2024 F1 season has so far exceeded all expectations. In the campaign, Red Bull was expected to dominate, but with 14 races done and dusted, the sport has already seen seven different Grand Prix winners.
Max Verstappen and Red Bull are no longer the pace setters in the sport and the balance of power has been shifting race after race. As things stand, the tussle for the world championship has turned into an intense four-way battle between Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes.
Seeing the immensely tight grid of the 2024 campaign, the Ex-F1 driver, David Coulthard has not shied away from deeming it the ‘golden era.’
I think that we're in a golden era of Formula 1, It's always impressive when you have one driver or one team dominating, but this is much more impressive, that you have different teams and drivers, on any given weekend - and it's the closest we'll ever get to truly understanding who is the best driver.David Coulthard via Racingnews365
Looking at the reaction of the former Red Bull driver, it is quite clear that he is immensely pleased with what has transpired on the track this year. Moreover, he feels the closeness of the grid is an opportunity to ascertain who really is the best driver on the current grid.
David Coulthard backs Ferrari to ‘find’ their lost form
While Coulthard is pleased seeing the wheel-to-wheel action on the track, Ferrari despite being third in the championship, has lost its way a bit. Since Monaco, the outfit has been on a downward trajectory in F1.
However, despite this, the 53-year-old expects the Fred Vasseur-led team to find form at some point in the second leg of the 2024 season.
Mercedes dominated for a while, and then Red Bull have dominated, it's becoming a lot more competitive because we've got Mercedes winning races, and McLaren winning races. Ferrari may be lagging a little bit behind, but inevitably, they will find form at a certain point.David Coulthard via the same interview
The Maranello-based team has so far managed to amass 345 points and is only 21 behind the McLaren F1 team. Red Bull is also not too far as they are currently sitting on only 408. Keeping this in view, Ferrari will have a chance from Zandvoort onwards, to close the gap to the top two teams. The second leg of the 2024 season will be an extremely fascinating watch.
