Former British F1 driver David Coulthard has spoken highly of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri in light of his recent performances. Piastri has now either won or scored a podium in four of the last five races this season.
Oscar Piastri has been a phenomenal performer for the Papayas despite being only 23 years of age. He made his debut for the Woking-based team last season and has since been progressively improving with each passing race.
David Coulthard, amongst many, has deemed Piastri a bright talent who is destined for greater things in the future. The young Australian was exceptionally brilliant in securing the win during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix last Sunday.
He's the real deal, lovely family. Very unassuming but boy is he committed when it comes to going wheel to wheel.David Coulthard said on the Formula for Success podcast
Piastri currently stands fourth in the drivers’ championship with 222 points to his name so far. His talent and dedication to the sport are two of the most potent factors that will contribute to a brighter future for the 23-year-old.
Oscar Piastri applauds McLaren for massive turnaround since 2023
McLaren was a struggling force just 18 months ago when they had a tough time finishing toward the top end of the F1 chart. Since then, a radical turnaround has taken place in the team that has got them currently leading the constructors’ championship.
It’s full credit to the team for the turnaround we’ve managed to have in my 18 months here. Firstly, in terms of improving the car, but helping me improve as well. Results like this definitely weren’t possible 12 months ago for myself, so it’s a massive team effort and I’m excited to see what the future holds.Oscar Piastri said via Formula1
Oscar Piastri has thereafter accredited his personal success to the team’s efforts and dedication as well. The 23-year-old claims that the results, which seemed to be an impossible dream, have now become a burning reality for the Papayas.
The Woking-based team has not won the constructors’ title since 1998. However, with their current form and persistent efforts, it seems very likely that they will bag the revered silverware at the end of the ongoing season.
