Max Verstappen dominated Formula 1 for the past two seasons. However, the three-time world champion found himself competing against Lando Norris for the 2024 title. Now, former Red Bull driver David Coulthard has claimed that there was prejudice towards the Dutch driver in his fight with Norris.
Coulthard praised Verstappen’s stellar victory at Interlagos. The 27-year-old went on to win the race after starting from P17 on the grid. DC highlighted that the Red Bull driver was in a league of his own that day compared to the rest of the grid.
However, the 53-year-old mentioned that if someone could not acknowledge that Max Verstappen drove brilliantly in Brazil, then they had a prejudice problem. David Coulthard joked that prejudice is the reason behind many issues globally.
David Coulthard asserts drivers like Max Verstappen are always ‘controversial’
The Briton insisted that Verstappen is a fast driver and admitted that he is controversial. However, Coulthard emphasized that even Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher faced controversies in their career. Subsequently, the 53-year-old reckoned that every successful driver in F1 has faced such comments.
Max Verstappen is one of the few drivers who does not care about media backlash. Rather, the Dutch driver often takes a dig at alleged biases on the grid. Verstappen simply wants to focus on his racing and fulfill his title ambitions. This is perhaps the reason for the 27-year-old’s massive fan following.
