Sergio Perez‘s future in Formula 1 is pretty much over with him having to part ways with Red Bull due to failing performances. Perez achieved a multi-year contract extension until 2026 and still had to depart from the team. Hence, upon this, Ex-Red Bull driver David Coulthard waged the Mexican’s options and claimed that his team was negotiating the best exit agreement possible.

David Coulthard pointed out that he merely voiced his opinions about the contract negotiations being a standoff between Sergio Perez and his management. The Briton revealed that following these comments, the Mexican fans hurled a lot of hate towards the former. The Mexicans questioned Coulthard’s capabilities and achievements in Formula 1 when he predicted the sacking.

I voiced an opinion on this very show ahead of the end of the season and I just felt it was a standoff between himself and his management. I took some heat from Mexico, ‘What would you know? What have you ever achieved?’ and all that good stuff.

Coulthard reiterated that he was speaking based on facts and meant no personal harm. The Briton added that if it were a personality contest and for one of the most liked drivers on the gird, then Perez would make the list. The 53-year-old asserted that the Mexican was a brilliant man who had raced some great races and had many performances he could be proud of.

The fact is, I was merely basing an opinion on the facts, and the fact are that Checo, if it were a personality contest and one of the most like drivers in the paddock contest, would still be in the seat. He is a brilliant man, has done a great job,  and he has won lots of Grands Prix and can be incredibly proud of his performance.

Sergio Perez ‘couldn’t match’ Max Verstappen in 2024 which caused his imminent exit

Sergio Perez failed to match Max Verstappen in terms of performances throughout the 2024 season following his winless stint. David Coulthard recalled this fact and highlighted that Perez cost a lot of valuable points to Red Bull. As a result, the team decided to keep the Mexican involved with the brand but not behind the wheels of a chassis.

But last season, he didn’t match Max, and it cost the team valuable points in the constructors’ championship. So, an agreement has been found where he will still be involved with the brand in some way, but clearly not behind the steering wheel of the Red Bull Racing car.

David Coulthard noted

Perez’s future in motorsport especially Formula 1 is more or less over, especially after his father’s remark. The 34-year-old is yet to speak out publicly regarding the matter and his future career. Certainly, the Mexican might deem a career in some other motorsport categories especially due to his liking to the sport.
