Lewis Hamilton has endured an extremely challenging debut year with Ferrari in 2025. The Briton was expecting to contend for his record-breaking eighth title with the Italian constructor. However, in the first 19 outings, Hamilton’s best result is only a P4 finish in the main race and a single sprint race win.
As such, amid the team’s declining performance, ex-F1 driver and Sky Sports commentator, David Croft, has pondered over how the seven-time champion will soon run out of patience.
Since the beginning of the season, Lewis Hamilton had accepted the unexpected issues he faced at Ferrari. The Briton even revealed emotional moments throughout the year as he faced intense struggles.
However, the team’s performance did not improve at all, and they even lost the P2 spot to Mercedes mid-way through the year. Now, despite the team’s positive outing at the US GP, David Croft reckons that it isn’t enough as per the Scuderia’s standards.
Speaking on Charles Leclerc‘s podium finish at the US GP, David Croft insisted that Maranello would be very pleased with the results. However, these weren’t good enough compared to what the team achieved at Austin in the previous season, a one-two finish with Leclerc bringing home the race win in 2024. Moreover, Lewis Hamilton’s P4 finish wasn’t good enough for him as he still failed to achieve a podium finish.
Ferrari will be delighted with a podium and they’ll be a lot of smiles around Maranello, but it’s not good enough. It’s not good enough compared to what they did in Austin last year, it’s not good enough compared to what people expected of the team this year, and it’s not good enough for Lewis Hamilton.
David Croft said on the F1 Show
David Croft highlighted that there were definitely signs that Lewis Hamilton was running out of patience, especially in his efforts to help improve Ferrari and their performances.
Hamilton also tried to change some procedures of the Italian constructor, but failed to do so. To make matters worse, the Briton wasn’t being heard, according to Crofty, something which would definitely push the 40-year-old to quit the team soon.
I think there are signs that Lewis is running out of patience a little bit with his efforts to try and help the team improve and change some of their procedures and bring improvement, and not being listened to.

David Croft claims Lewis Hamilton ‘desperate’ to help Ferrari turn around its results
Lewis Hamilton has been giving it his all to help improve Ferrari’s state. The Briton even sent documents to the teams that contained potential fixes in the car. However, all these efforts seem to go in vain as they have yet to emerge as a winning force. In addition to the team’s performance issues, Maranello even reportedly wasn’t actively listening to the seven-time champion, which caused further problems.

David Croft revealed that Lewis Hamilton was becoming desperate to help Ferrari regain its lost glory in Formula as soon as possible. However, the 40-year-old wasn’t heard enough by the team, ultimately causing them to not improve their results.
As such, the Italian squad must ensure that both drivers are heard equally and both of them are seen equally in terms of feedback for changes and improvements on the challenger.
That to me, could become a story more and more down the line, that Lewis is desperate to try and help Ferrari regain their glory years, but at the moment, doesn’t feel he’s being listened to by management and those above management.
David Croft noted
The 2025 season only has five races left until completion as Lewis Hamilton continues his hunt for improved results. The Briton has already shifted his focus away from this year and onto the upcoming season, and emerging as a winning force by then. As such, time will tell if the 40-year-old manages to contend for his record-breaking eighth title with F1’s most historic team or not.
