In May, Adrian Newey announced his departure from Red Bull after 20 years with the team. While the true reasons behind his exit remained unclear, some speculated that Christian Horner’s scandal played a role. According to Newey’s manager, Eddie Jordan, the aero-genius foresaw an impending performance slump. This reportedly upset him and contributed to his decision to leave.
Eddie Jordan suggested that Adrian Newey may have noticed something months, or even a year ago, that bothered him or made him unhappy. It could have been a disagreement about the technical direction the team was taking, or something else that didn’t sit right with him. The 65-year-old had mentioned earlier he would take a break after completing all his duties at Red Bull. However, Aston Martin dropped a bomb by signing the technical wizard to their team.
Maybe he saw something a couple of months, a year ago, that was either upsetting him, or some road of technical belief as to where the team should go that he didn’t agree with.Eddie Jordan told Formula for Success
Eddie Jordan stated, considering Max Verstappen’s recent performance there might have been something happening with the car or within the team that Adrian Newey wasn’t happy with. Coincidentally, since his departure was announced, Red Bull’s form has crashed. The aero-genius could’ve seen deeper issues to the teams direction. However, the 76-year-old pointed out that it’s not entirely clear, and whatever was bothering Newey hadn’t been fully explained yet.
But when you see what’s happening with Max, who’s to say that there was something happening in the car, in the team, that Adrian wasn’t happy with.Eddie Jordan added.
Eddie Jordan credits McLaren’s midseason success to a single individual
Eddie Jordan believed that Red Bull started missing Adrian Newey’s input halfway through the season. He suggested that the 65-year-old’s absence may have impacted the team’s performance. On the other hand, Jordan gave credit for McLaren’s success to one key person, their designer. He said that the design and development of McLaren’s current car is the work of this particular individual that has brought them success.
The design and the delivery of the current McLaren car, it’s one particular person. It hasn’t changed, it’s still the same person now it’s leading and winning races.Eddie Jordan stated.
Certainly, Eddie Jordan signaled that if Adrian Newey had stayed with Red Bull, the team would have identified and resolved issues before experiencing a performance drop. Since Newey’s departure, situations at the Milton Keynes outfit had worsened. With only seven races left in the season, the energy drink brand needs to put in significant effort to regain their lost lead.
