McLaren driver Lando Norris was forced to swap the lead with his teammate Oscar Piastri at the Hungarian GP. In light of this, former Jordan F1 owner, Eddie Jordan has deemed Norris the number one driver for the Papayas.

McLaren has not been the best with their strategies, despite showcasing a commanding pace on track this season. Oscar Piastri‘s maiden win over Lando Norris in Budapest was a prime example of the team’s loopy decision-making ability.

Eddie Jordan has thereafter claimed that Norris’s misfortune at Hungary will come back to reward him in due time. The 24-year-old has missed out on several wins this year due to misjudgment and poor decision-making.

Norris has, however, shed no bad blood between himself and Oscar Piastri after the controversial race around Hungary. The Brit will now be keen on redeeming himself before the summer break at the Belgian Grand Prix to better his 2024 title hopes.

Lando Norris ‘not proud’ of disobeying team orders in Budapest

Norris refused to give up his lead to Piastri initially when team orders were aired during the 70-lap race in Budapest. The 24-year-old has since taken an apologetic stance for his disobedience on track.

But it's the things that I could have done: the fact that I kind of clouded over Oscar's first race win in F1 is something I've not felt too proud about.

The Brit faced major criticism for his initial demeanor in supporting his teammate for the win. But many have argued in favor of Norris, supporting his frustration with having to let go of a crucial race victory.

The Papayas have cleared the air amongst themselves since the incident and are keen on maximizing their chances going forwards. The upcoming race in Spa will be an important one for McLaren as they seek to close the gap to Red Bull.
