Former Jordan F1 owner Eddie Jordan has been in constant praise of McLaren in light of their results this season. Jordan has predicted that Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will cause the team issues in attaining the title of number one driver.
McLaren has been a formidable force on track since Lando Norris‘s win at Miami this year. But the Woking-based outfit has had its fair share of controversy and troubles while rising among the ranks in 2024.
Eddie Jordan has pitted Norris as the number one driver over his teammate Oscar Piastri, who has also been on par with him this campaign. Piastri has been a consistent performer for McLaren, showing great skill on track despite racing in only his second F1 season ever.
Eddie Jordan spoke on the Formula For Success podcastThey’re going to be fighting each other and they're going to be fighting for grid position. They're going to be fighting for race results. It's great for the punters but i'm sure a hell of a ride for the team(McLaren).
The Papayas will now seek to extract maximum performance out of Norris and Piastri during the second half of the season. The team must, however, be careful when pitting the drivers against each other in the chase for wins and points going forward.
Lando Norris slams critics in light of McLaren’s ascending form
Lando Norris signed a long-term contract extension with McLaren at the start of 2024, which provoked many to criticize him. But to Norris’s delight, the Papayas have emerged as one of the strongest contenders for the title this season.
There were a lot of people that didn't agree or thought it was a silly thing to do, so it’s nice to prove some of them wrong. [It was] not me [who] proved them wrong, but the team proved them wrong. They have got what is needed.Lando Norris via Sky Sports F1
The 24-year-old accredited McLaren’s rise in form to the hard work of the team over the past year or so. Norris then said that it felt nice on his part to have made the right decision to stick by the team despite their tough spells over the years.
McLaren trails Red Bull in the championship this season by only 42 points. The Woking-based outfit will now make their best efforts after the summer break to win the title for the first time in over 26 years.
