Ex-McLaren coordinator claims Sergio Perez ‘will never be able’ to reach ‘phenomenon’ Max Verstappen’ level in F1

Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez have had stark differences in their performances this season. While Verstappen leads the championship with seven wins, Perez has amassed only 24 points in the last seven races.
Sergio Perez has been far from efficient for the Milton-Keynes outfit since the 2023 season. Perez scored four podiums in the first five races this year but has fallen off greatly since then. He has been unable to prove his worth, which has landed him under scrutiny upon signing a new contract with the team.
Former McLaren coordinator Joaquín ‘Jo’ Ramírez has since deemed the Mexican to be unable to match Max Verstappen‘s talent. Ramirez has then claimed that very few or possibly none, of the drivers can match Verstappen’s level on the racing track.
He's not a bad driver, but I tell him that he always has to say that the car is perfect, because he always complains about the car, the temperature, the tyres..., he always complains about something instead of saying: Look, Verstappen is a phenomenon and I can't get close to him. You shouldn't be afraid to say that because I think there are very few drivers who are at Verstappen's level. Or maybe there aren't. He can change his driving style, but he'll never be able to reach Verstappen.Joaquín ‘Jo’ Ramírez spoke to MundoDeportivo
There has been much debate within the Milton-Keynes outfit regarding Perez’s future with them. The six-time race winner therefore has no choice but to inevitably deliver results if he wishes to remain with the team in 2025.
Adrian Newey claims of continuing his work on the RB17 despite Red Bull exit
British Aerodynamicist Adrian Newey announced that he would be leaving Red Bull in 2025 after 18 successful years with the team. Newey thereafter unveiled his final project with the team, which is the RB17 hypercar, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
After I’ve officially stopped with Red Bull, [there’s] very much an agreement with Christian [Horner], with the shareholders, all the senior people at Red Bull that I will continue to be involved with [the RB]17, on email, on phone calls, dyno tests when we start dyno testing, track testing. I’ve put too much into this car now as a passion project, much in the after hours, evenings, or weekends, to walk away from it at this point.Adrian Newey said on the Talking Bull podcast
Adrian Newey revealed an agreement with Red Bull that will allow him to remain involved in the further developments of the RB17. The 65-year-old claims that he has put too much into this project, which makes it pointless for him to walk away now.
Red Bull is currently in an extremely difficult position, having lost the services of the championship-winning designer. Going forward, they will look to make the most of their present resources by bagging a fourth consecutive title this year.
