The excitement for the frigid Las Vegas GP started to peak following the beginning of the Qualifying session. Williams’ Franco Colapinto was looking hopeful of showcasing yet another points finish over the final American race weekend this season.

Heading into the Q2 qualifying session, Franco Colapinto was the only Williams driver on track following Alex Albon‘s early elimination. Despite positive results over the practice sessions, Colapinto suffered a colossal crash in the Q2 session, which ended the Argentinian’s hope of competing in the Q3 session. The 21-year-old crashed into the wall at the Turn 18 with the crash reportedly being over 25Gs in impact.

Williams has suffered from their fifth crash over the past two race weekends following Colapinto’s crash at the Brazilian GP. The team has to work overtime on fixing the chassis as the accidents have also cost the team a fortune. As a result, the Grove-based constructor would have to fasten the process of fixing the chassis of the 21-year-old for the Las Vegas GP.

Fans were unhappy with Franco Colapinto’s continuous streak of crashes

In a recent tweet on X, multiple fans berated the failing performances of Colapinto in recent weeks. The Argentinian replaced Logan Sargeant and put forth good results from the get-go. However, the fans recalled that Sargeant was now being missed amidst such performances from the 21-year-old. Meanwhile, other fans sympathized with Colapinto following the ‘massive hit’.

Another fan claimed that despite being super fast, the Argentinian was making way too many mistakes this season. Subsequently, one fan questioned how Williams was maintaining the cost cap budget this season amidst so many crashes. A fan also highlighted that Colapinto had remained ‘unlucky’ recently due to such results.

Colapinto has attained a P14 start for the Las Vegas GP, ahead of his teammate. Both the Williams drivers will have to work extremely hard to move up the pecking order. The team doesn’t seem to be in contention for moving up positions in the constructors’ championship amidst failing results.
