In Short
  • Felipe Massa believes Fernando Alonso's time to succeed in Formula 1 has passed.
  • Alonso has faced a disappointing start to the 2026 season with two DNFs and car issues.
  • Lance Stroll acknowledges team frustration but remains confident in Aston Martin's potential.

Fernando Alonso is one of the many drivers who have suffered from a disappointing start to the 2026 season. Aston Martin has been unable to develop a competitive car and has suffered from disappointments since the beginning of the year. Now, former F1 driver Felipe Massa delivers a brutal verdict on Alonso’s failure under the new regulations.

Notably, Aston Martin already had early indicators of problems under the new regulations. The AMR26 challenger reportedly has extreme vibrations to the point where Fernando Alonso feared suffering from nerve damage. Moreover, Alonso suffered from a DNF in both the first two races of the 2026 season. As such, Felipe Massa believes that the Asturian is better off exiting the sport rather than keep driving.

Fernando Alonso’s former Ferrari teammate, Felipe Massa, brutally declared that the former’s time to succeed in Formula 1 had already passed. Massa believes that the two-time champion is better off competing in other racing formats. The Brazilian continued that the 2026 season was bound to be Alonso’s worst season ever in the pinnacle of motorsport.

Though Fernando Alonso is suffering from one of the worst seasons in his career, Aston Martin could develop their car well over the season. However, with Adrian Newey stepping down from his team principal position, the team is definitely undergoing some issues. Felipe Massa reckons that Alonso might need to be patient amid his current woes. But, Massa accepted that it would be difficult to be patient at over 44 years of age.

Fernando’s moment has already passed, It is time to compete in other races. It is going to be one of Fernando’s worst years. You have to be patient… but being patient at 44 years old is not easy.

Felipe Massa told Jugones.

Lance Stroll reveals “everyone frustrated” at Aston Martin

Even Lance Stroll has been suffering from similar results to Fernando Alonso’s disappointing start to the 2026 season. The Canadian finished in P17 at the season opener in Australia and a DNF at the recent Chinese GP. Following the Silverstone-based constructor’s current situation, Stroll has accepted that the entire crew is frustrated with the situation.

Lance Stroll accepted that it wasn’t a great time for the team currently, as everyone’s frustration was reaching an all-time high. The Canadian noted that this wasn’t the way Aston Martin hoped to come racing and finish all the way behind the grid. Ultimately, Stroll is confident that the team has a lot of potential to perform well over the season.

It’s not a great time for the team, Everyone’s frustrated with where we are. It’s not why we want to come racing, to be fighting for these positions. But there’s a lot of potential, of that I have no doubt. We have a great facility, very talented people inside the team, Adrian, who joined, Honda has won four of the last five championships.

Lance Stroll said, as reported by motorsportweek.

Certainly, a lot of teams have suffered from a disappointing start to the 2026 season. Aston Martin is suffering from the worst performances out of the others. The Honda power units are seemingly not good enough to compete with the rivals on track. Meanwhile, the Silverstone-based constructor is looking forward to filling in the empty position following Adrian Newey’s demotion.
