Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso has endured a tough spell with the team’s AMR24 this season. Alonso has amassed only 49 points, failing to secure a front-row finish in the 14 races that have taken place so far.
Fernando Alonso was a formidable force, challenging the likes of Red Bull in his AMR23 during the start of last season. The veteran Spaniard finished fourth in the 2023 championship, with eight successful podiums to his name.
Alonso’s fortunes have not been the same this year, as he called for the dire betterment of the AMR24 this season. The 43-year-old has urged for a comfortable approach to be found within the team ahead of 2025.
In 2024, as I said, the top four teams are a bit out of reach , so we have to focus on our development, on our confidence in the car and improving for next year. I think our goal and my personal wish is to find the direction and a comfortable path for development that will allow us to go into the winter break with more confidence in what we do and thus have a more normal 2025.Fernando Alonso said via gpblog
Alonso further went on to add the following.
The car is not easy to drive and is a bit unpredictable at times. This obviously takes away some confidence from the driver, when you are not able to push and have that confidence in the car in every corner on every lap.Fernando Alonso via the same interview
Alonso has shown his capabilities to the grid several times over the years of racing in F1. The two-time world champion will hope for his team to make a better car, which will allow him to return to the spots once again.
Aston Martin chief outlines advantages of the team’s new wind tunnel
Aston Martin Technical Director Dan Fallows has expressed his delight over the installation of a new wind tunnel at the team’s headquarters. The Silverstone-based team, until recently, relied on Mercedes’ wind tunnel at Brackley.
So the new simulator that we’ve got is, you know, that’s obviously a state-of-the-art simulator, which is coming online later in the year, as is the wind tunnel. It allows us to do much more of our own testing in the way that we want, and it just gives us much more flexibility than we have at the moment. There’s been, you know, lots of examples of things that we would have liked to have done that we weren’t able to do.Dan Fallows via Motorsportweek
Fallows has claimed that the new wind tunnel will allow the team to test on a more intensive and flexible basis. He also said that the absence of a solitary wind tunnel has denied them ample opportunities in the past as well.
Aston Martin has been on a declining trajectory in 2024, amassing only 73 points as compared to their previous season’s 280 points. The outfit will now to utilize the new technological advancements in order to yield a better run next season.
