Veteran Formula One driver Fernando Alonso has not been having an immensely tough time this season. The Spaniard has amassed only 49 points after 14 races for the Silverstone-based Aston Martin team.
Aston Martin showed formidable pace at the start of the 2023 season, challenging Red Bull for the championship lead. But the outfit failed to keep up with their strong form, falling off greatly during the ongoing campaign.
Fernando Alonso has since shown his disappointment with Aston Martin’s incompetence against the top teams this season. Alonso has claimed that the team has gone from fighting for victories to defending against the bottom half of the grid.
A little bit disappointed. We cannot hide the fact that we are fighting today with Williams, AlphaTauri [RB] and Alpine, and last year, we were looking to the top four teams - now they are out of reach, and we are just defending from the guys behind.Fernando Alonso told the media including RacingNews365
The 43-year-old’s best result was a P5 finish at the Bahrain Grand Prix, entailing a lackluster run from the otherwise brilliant Spaniard. He will now hope for the team to work on their shortfalls to compete strongly during the second half of the campaign.

So my focus is on this project. 25 and ’26 is a huge challenge in front of us. That is where my thoughts are.Mike Krack replied to SkySports Deutschland
