The Singapore GP saw an extremely disappointing end for Ferrari’s weekend amidst their championship contention dreams. Fernando Alonso, on the other hand, showcased a great performance after finishing in points despite a mediocre chassis. Hence, amidst Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz‘s P5 and P7 finish, Alonso reckoned that they deserved to win the race.
Carlos Sainz‘s streak of woeful performances continued as he crashed out during the Q3 session and qualified in P10. Additionally, Charles Leclerc couldn’t set a lap time and could only manage a P9 start. As a result, both drivers had to work hard on the track to move up the pecking order and score good points.
Amidst this, Fernando Alonso recalled the weekend and spoke highly of Ferrari’s pace despite the fall in performance. Alonso claimed that the Italian constructor was deserving of the win at the Marina Bay Circuit. The reason for this was that the Ferrari’s chassis was the fastest on track in Singapore.
The Ferraris were, I mean, they should have won this race, probably. They were the fastest car this weekend.

Fernando Alonso claims he ‘can’t do more’ after scoring points in Singapore
Aston Martin’s performance in the 2024 season has been a stark difference from the one in the previous season. Fernando Alonso still managed to score points in Singapore despite the disappointing chassis performance. Hence, after finishing in P8, Alonso noted that he couldn’t do any more than this with the machinery provided.
I think we should [have] be 15th and 16th. We are eighth, two seconds behind a Ferrari. So I don’t know if I can do more.

Adrian Newey‘s entry into Aston Martin by 2025 might enable the team to perform extremely well. Newey will take great learnings about Red Bull and chassis development in the ground-effect era to Silverstone. Hence, time will tell about how the aero-genius sparkles his magic with the team for the coming season.
