The Las Vegas GP was one of the more controversial races for the drivers and teams. The track conditions weren’t up to the mark, and many drivers complained about the lack of grip around the circuit. Now, even F1’s oldest driver, Fernando Alonso, has fired some shots at the track asphalt of Sin City, claiming that it wasn’t up to the standards of the pinnacle of motorsport.

Since the beginning of the Las Vegas GP race weekend, rookie Oliver Bearman had criticized the lack of grip at the circuit. Moreover, even Max Verstappen failed to clinch the pole position against Lando Norris because of the track conditions. Now, Fernando Alonso reckoned that though the race was fun because of the high-speed layout, there were still some issues.

Fernando Alonso boldly claimed that the type of asphalt around the Las Vegas GP circuit was not F1 standard. He added that the track was too slippery and the tires were unable to reach the correct temperature during the race. To add to this, the track was extremely bumpy, and it was at the limit of being safe to race.

The Las Vegas GP recently renewed its contract that runs atleast until the end of the 2027 season. As such, the problems need to be looked into and fixed as soon as possible. Fernando Alonso pointed out that for the upcoming years, the drivers and teams needed to have a conversation with the FIA and see if racing around the circuit was acceptable or not.

The circuit is fun because it’s high speed but I think the type of asphalt is not F1 standard, It’s too slippery and we cannot put the tyres in temperature, there is no grip and it’s extremely bumpy, at the limit of being safe to race. So I think for the future, we need to talk with FIA if this is acceptable or not for the following years.

Fernando Alonso said, as reported by RacingNews365.

Fernando Alonso claims ‘no other sport’ would accept such a calendar

The 2025 F1 calendar was set in a manner where the drivers would have to travel less between races, ultimately saving time and fuel in the process. However, the third and final American race is right before the two final races in Asia, namely the Qatar and Abu Dhabi GP. As such, Fernando Alonso shockingly claimed that no other sport would accept such a calendar and call for changes to it immediately.

Fernando Alonso claimed that racing at Las Vegas at this time in the calendar was very difficult for the teams and drivers. The time difference between the racing venues and the distance from Europe and Brazilian races was a problem for everyone involved. Moreover, the 17-hour journey to Qatar right after the race was definitely problematic for the people.

The place in the calendar, if I’m totally honest, is difficult for us, To come here with the time difference and how far it is from Europe and Brazil two weeks ago, and we go to Qatar now straight, it’s 17 hours by plane and 13 hours [sic 11] time difference. I don’t think any other sport in the world would accept that.

Fernando Alonso noted.

The 2025 season of Formula 1 has been exciting and enjoyable so far. However, Fernando Alonso’s comments about problematic traveling between races are definitely not unseen. Many people have complained about it in the past, and the sport must do something about it soon. For now, the grid hopes to finish the year and take their well-deserved breaks.
