Aston Martin sit fifth at the constructors championship with only 73 points scored in the first half of the season. Rivals, Mercedes and McLaren improved a lot as the season progressed compared to their initial performance. However, the Silverstone-based squad still remained in their rough patch. Fernando Alonso reveals what he hopes from the second half of the season.
The 2024 Formula 1 season’s summer break will end this week with its 15th race at Zandvoort. Recently, Fernando Alonso stated that his motivation is to hope for a strong performance in the second half of the season. The Spaniard wants the team to have a car that can consistently reach the top 10 positions in Saturday’s qualifying races.
Well, I mean the motivation is just hoping for a good second part of the year, which means to have a consistent car in the Q3 and the top 10.Fernando Alonso said, as reported by pitdebrief.com

Alonso explained Aston Martin’s recent performance slump had put them on a trajectory but they should not get frustrated over it. He explained that in Barcelona, which was his home race, they weren’t the fifth fastest team. In Austria, their performance was worse than expected as they were the seventh or eighth fastest on the grid. The Spaniard hoped not to experience such fluctuations in performance again. Therefore, Alonso was not happy with the team’s inconsistent results and expected more consistent and improved performance in the last 10 rounds.
I think we’ve been a little bit up and down unfortunately. Barcelona, we were not the fifth fastest team. Austria, we were quite bad as well; we were the seventh or the eighth fastest team. I don’t want to hopefully see that again.Fernando Alonso added.
Fernando Alonso wants Aston Martin at the top of the midfield
Fernando Alonso expressed with strong desire that he wanted Aston Martin to be among the top part in the midfield, just behind the top four teams. He hoped that over time, they could reduce the gap and get closer to those leading teams. However, he acknowledged that it had been challenging this year because there are not many new improvements or upgrades for any team. So it will be difficult for the Silverstone-based squad to perform with their old upgrades.

I want to be in the top part of the midfield, just behind the top four teams. And then slowly maybe close that gap to the top four teams. Maybe this year is going to be difficult because there are not many upgrades for anybody coming.Fernando Alonso stated.
Therefore, Fernando Alonso aimed for his team to perform well in the middle ranks and gradually catch up with the best teams. However, he understood that achieving this goal was tough due to limited new developments in the cars this season.
