For me it’s very difficult to really think of a life without a steering wheel in my hands. That will never happen or at least not in the short term. I had 99% confidence that I would continue to compete next year, so retiring was not an option.

Fernando Alonso claimed that it was difficult to predict when he would decide to hang up his racing gloves altogether. However, the 42-year-old affirmed that for the next two years, he would do his best to make progress with Aston Martin in Formula 1.

It is really difficult to talk about this, because I cannot predict when I will stop competing or when I will retire from racing. It probably won’t happen in 2025 or 2026 … let’s put it on for at least two more years.

Fernando Alonso asserted

Certainly, Fernando Alonso is happy with his decision to stay at Silverstone for the upcoming seasons. The 42-year-old is running out of time to achieve success in F1 again. As such, Alonso would be hoping that the British team can deliver him a capable car with the new regulations in 2026. It remains to be seen if the Spanish driver could once again stand on the top step of the podium in the foreseeable future.
