Fernando Alonso secured a two-year deal with Aston Martin, sealing his future in Formula 1 till the end of the 2026 season. Alonso is already the oldest driver on the grid and will continue to solidify legacy as he will in the sport at least till the age of 45. Hence, after confirming his status, the Asturian opened up regarding his age and his being in the sport for longer.

Fernando Alonso‘s new deal with Aston Martin will allow the Spaniard to race for the British team during the start of the new regulations. Alonso reckoned that he would keep on racing despite being 45 years old. Additionally, the 42-year-old figured that if he didn’t feel motivated or ‘in good shape’ he would take action. The Asturian would be the first person to ‘raise a hand’ over these issues and discuss them with Silverstone.

It is true, I will be 45 or more and keep racing, If one day, I feel that I'm not motivated, not in good shape or not fast... I will be the first one to raise my hand and say: 'You know, I have maybe lost here or there' and we will find solutions.
Fernando Alonso said, as reported by motorsport.com.

However, Alonso made it clear that he didn’t see this happening any time soon. The 42-year-old pointed towards his impressive run during the Japanese GP. The Asturian highlighted the Suzuka weekened as one of his best races. Hence, the two-time world champion feels great and doesn’t see any problem in continuing racing in the pinnacle of motorsport.

But I don't see that coming for the next few years. As I said in Japan, probably one of my best races ever maybe happened just five days ago, so I am feeling good. I don't see any problem there.

Fernando Alonso admits he needed a ‘few races’ to commit to Aston Martin

Fernando Alonso had previously claimed that he would go to Aston Martin first when finalizing a team for the future. The 42-year-old confessed that Formula 1 took all the time and energy, and he needed to give up everything to continue racing. Additionally, Alonso required a few more races to commit to Aston Martin beyond the 2024 season.

Obviously, Formula 1 takes all your time or your energy, you have to give up basically everything in life to keep racing, I needed a few races or few weeks to really think for myself if I was ready to commit for more years.

Moreover, Alonso also accepted that the excess traveling due to the 24-race calendar would be taxing on the 42-year-old. However, the love for racing was quite prevalent for the Asturian as he would continue for multiple more years. The 42-year-old claimed that these are the sacrifices that were to be made for the ‘joy of driving’ in Formula 1.

It was not a racing factor, it was more the travelling, to be honest. Looking at this calendar, I was a little bit afraid that this will be heavy on me. I felt that I love too much driving, that I cannot stop at the moment.
Fernando Alonso declared.

Fernando Alonso’s contract expansion has definitely put a smile on all of his fans. Aston Martin has been looking much stronger as compared to their form in the latter half of the 2023 season. Silverstone is in a tight battle with Mercedes to secure the fifth spot in the constructors championship. Hence, Alonso would be hoping to bag some decent results over the course of this year.
