Fernando Alonso the two-time F1 world champion, is contracted to Aston Martin until the end of 2026. He is the oldest driver on the current grid but despite this fact, he has astonishingly high aspirations for the upcoming years.

The 43-year-old veteran of the sport is fully determined to amass a third world championship in the next two-three years. Fernando Alonso last won the coveted title in 2006 as a Renault (Alpine) F1 team driver.

At the moment, it’s not in my plans to leave the ‘Big Circus.’ I’m very, very focused on Formula 1 now. Over the next two or three years I want to win a third world title. That’s my first and only priority at the moment.

Looking at the strong comments of Alonso, he has made his intentions crystal clear for the upcoming seasons. Despite being 43, he is still seen by many pundits as one of the best drivers on the current F1 grid.

Could Fernando Alonso be seen racing in F1 even after 2026?

While Fernando Alonso has his eyes set on winning the driver’s championship in the coming years, there is a possibility of him continuing in the sport even after 2026. Alonso will assess where he’s at in terms of various things when his current Aston Martin contract would be coming to an end.

And then, because I’ll be 45, 46, we’ll see how I am when the time comes.

The 2023 season was a memorable one for Alonso as he amassed an impressive eight podium finishes and a strong 206 points. Moreover, this number was enough for him to end the campaign in a respectable fourth place in the standings.

While last year was rewarding, Alonso has had an extremely average 2024 campaign. This has been mostly down to Aston Martin not doing the best job with the development of the AMR24. The Silverstone-based team has acquired Adrian Newey from 2025 onwards and considering this, it will be fascinating to see how up the field Alonso would be seen competing in the coming years.
