Fernando Alonso has finally received some good news amid his disastrous start to the 2026 season. The Asturian has suffered from a DNF in both the first two races. Now, ahead of the Japanese GP, Alonso has shared an update on the birth of his first child alongside his partner, Melissa Jimenez. The 44-year-old missed the Japanese GP media day because of the birth of his child.

Now, Fernando Alonso has revealed the good news to the media following the culmination of the two practice sessions in Japan. Certainly, Alonso had to accompany Melissa Jimenez during the delivery, and has now revealed that both the child and the mother are in good health. Now, the 44-year-old will shift focus to Formula 1 as he looks forward to the five-week impromptu break in race weekends.

Fernando Alonso revealed that he was jet-lagged throughout the two practice sessions because of landing in Japan the same morning. He continued that he had just finished the session and was going to go back to sleep. Alonso even had to miss out on the European night session because of prioritizing his family, and rightly so.

I’m a little jet-lagged because I landed this morning, but here we are, We just finished FP2, and in a few hours it’s time to sleep – I skipped the European night session.

Further, Fernando Alonso highlighted that he did not imagine anything specifically going bad or wrong. Meanwhile, he and Melissa Jimenez were certainly worried as everything was going well. Fortunately, there were no complications during the delivery, and things went just as planned. As such, the 44-year-old is delighted to have gone through such a happy and special moment in his personal life.

Well, you never really imagine anything specific, Things just happen as they happen, and there’s a bit of stress and worry about everything going well. Fortunately, it went well, both for the mum and the baby. A super happy, very special moment.

Fernando Alonso aims to get “back to work” for the Japanese GP

After supporting his partner as he delivered their child, Fernando Alonso quickly got back to work at the Japanese GP. Certainly, Aston Martin has suffered from one of the worst starts to a year. As such, Alonso is now looking forward to getting his head in the game and hopes to improve performances and atleast finish the full-length races without suffering from a DNF.

Speaking of the AMR26’s performance during the initial practice sessions, Fernando Alonso accepted that he did not have a great feeling from the car. He continued that the problems in the car were similar to what they faced in the first two races. Alonso hasn’t noticed a massive difference in performance following the upgrades introduced to the car for the Japanese GP.

Now, back to work, to see what we can do here, In FP2, we didn’t have great feelings about the car; I’d say it’s still pretty much the same as what we had before. We brought some upgraded parts, and in the tests and laps I’ve done so far, I haven’t noticed much of a difference. So we’re still a bit behind in terms of performance, and we need to work tonight to improve.

For now, Fernando Alonso and Co. are managing expectations in the 2026 season. The veteran has been unable to acheive any notable results so far. As such, Alonso will have to dig deeper into the issues, as he might exit the sport if the performances do not improve. The Asturian now has a family, which gives him all the more reasons to quit the sport altogether.
