The Ferrari F1 team appeared to have cracked the mystery of the SF-24 with Charles Leclerc‘s grand triumph at the Monaco GP. But since then, the outfit has gone on a downward spiral and it pretty much continued until the start of the ongoing summer break.

As things stand, the outfit has gone from second to being the fourth-fastest team on the 2024 grid. The likes of Mercedes and the Woking-based McLaren have surpassed the Italian outfit in terms of track performance.

This has been recently acknowledged by the Ferrari team principal, Fred Vasseur.

I think we’ve made progress in this and it’s important for the future. Obviously, we need to grow in every area, competition is a process of continuous improvement.

Looking at the reaction of the Ferrari boss, it is quite clear that in his opinion, progress has been made, but it is not enough. The Maranello-based team is currently in third position in the constructors standings.

Ferrari will continue ‘taking risks’ in 2024

While Vasseur has admitted to the need for Ferrari to improve, the outfit will not change its approach for the remainder of 2024. During the first half, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were often seen supporting riskier performance setups in comparison to rivals.

Moreover, the risks backfired quite a few times for the team.

More than that, it’s important to know how to manage them and to do that you have to get used to taking risks. It’s a learning process. I’d say we’ve entered into this mindset and that we have this mentality.

The fight for this year’s Constructors Championship has turned into a fierce four-way battle between Red Bull, McLaren, Mercedes, and Ferrari. The driver’s title is somewhat out of reach of Leclerc and Sainz and considering this, they will be focused on playing the team game during the second half of the 2024 season. The Maranello-based team is in with a decent shot at the coveted title.
