Lewis Hamilton has failed to emerge as a winning force in his debut season with Ferrari. The Briton is also unable to win the intra-team battle at Maranello against Charles Leclerc. Even though the two seem to be on par in terms of pace, Leclerc is leading the battle by 42 points. Hence, Ferrari insider revealed that Hamilton might be making the same mistake as Sebastian Vettel did against the Monegasque in the team.

Sebastian Vettel‘s Ferrari stint was full of challenges as he could not achieve a fifth title with them after joining in 2015. Even though Vettel amassed a handful of wins in his stint with Maranello, his momentum seemed insignificant after Charles Leclerc debuted in the 2019 season. The German was beaten by Leclerc in both the seasons they raced together, before the former ultimately left the team at the end of the 2020 season due to failing results.

While Lewis Hamilton‘s 2025 season is somewhat different from Vettel’s time against Charles Leclerc back then, Ferrari Insider Francesco Cigarini asserts that the former should not take Leclerc too lightly. Cigarini revealed that the Monegasque preferred a very sharply tuned car, with the rear end being free. The 27-year-old depended on his own feelings about the car and used that to perform well on track.

Leclerc prefers a very sharply tuned car, with the rear end being very free and requiring a lot of feeling.

Francesco Cigarini recalled that when Sebastian Vettel tried to copy Charles Leclerc’s setup in order to perform like him, the latter failed miserably. Cigarini joked that Vettel looked like a novice against Leclerc in his setup. As such, the Italian guessed something similar was happening to Lewis Hamilton, as he did not need to copy the Monegasque. Rather, the seven-time champion must get his own feeling of the car and set it up according to it.

When Vettel tried to copy that setup, he ended up looking like a novice. I think that’s exactly what’s happening with Hamilton now.

Francesco Cigarini predicts Lewis Hamilton might call Sebastian Vettel to sort Ferrari woes

Lewis Hamilton needs better results and fast. The Briton has already shifted his focus to the upcoming regulations of the 2026 season and winning races by then. For now, Hamilton will have to get his head in the game and end the current season on the best possible note. The 40-year-old isn’t too far off in the title standings against Leclerc. As such, the seven-time champion can potentially call Sebastian Vettel to get his insights on the current issues.

Francesco Cigarni reckoned that he wouldn’t be too surprised if Lewis Hamilton actually called Vettel to find out more about his current problems. Hamilton might get desperate to ‘wiggle’ out of his current problems and contact the German as his final resort. However, for now, the 40-year-old will enjoy the summer break and worry about the car when the time comes.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Hamilton calls Vettel to try to wriggle out of this.

Francesco Cigarini noted

The 2025 season has been one of the toughest of Lewis Hamilton’s career. Yet, true to the saying that diamonds are made under pressure, the seven-time champion is expected to bounce back stronger. The intra-team battle between the Briton and Leclerc will continue to heat up and potentially go on until the last race of the season.
