Franco Colapinto has replaced Logan Sargent at Williams for the remainder of the 2024 season. Sargent struggled to score points and faced many disappointing performances throughout the year. His difficulties peaked at the Dutch Grand Prix during third practice, when he crashed into the barriers.
Williams decided to make the change to improve their performance and opportunities. Colapinto will race alongside Alex Albon for the remainder of the season. Just three races into his F1 career, Franco Colapinto has already secured four points, thanks to his impressive P8 finish in Baku.
The Argentine’s strong performances have positioned him as a contender for the vacant seat at Sauber, which will transition to Audi in 2026. However, despite his talent, Colapinto faces stiff competition for a permanent seat at Williams in 2025, as Carlos Sainz is set to join the team from Ferrari to partner Alex Albon next season.
The 21-year-old recently appeared on a Spanish TV show where he joked about Sainz’s move to Williams. After he was replaced at Ferrari, the Spaniard decided to join Williams. Colapinto humorously remarked that Sainz took his seat. He playfully told interviewer Pablo Motos to tell his compatriot go to another team.
James Vowles asserts Franco Colapinto will always be part of Williams academy
Franco Colapinto is looking for a Formula 1 seat next year, with the only potential option being Sauber. Currently, there are rumors of him to that team and Williams team principal James Vowles is actively working to make that happen.
Regardless of the outcome, Vowels said that the 21-year-old will remain part of the Williams academy program, reflecting the team’s commitment to nurturing young talent. He highlighted Colapinto’s impressive talent, noting that he won a race with a less competitive team, which helped him secure his position in the Williams academy.
The 2024 Formula 1 season enters its final six races. This marks the last six races for Carlos Sainz with Ferrari and Franco Colapinto’s short stint with Williams for 2024. Fans are eagerly keeping an eye on Colapinto’s performances and are hoping that he can score more points to attract attention from other teams on the grid for future opportunities.
