Lewis Hamilton‘s start to the 2025 season has been nothing short of a challenge. In what was supposed to be Hamilton’s year of dominance, he has failed to achieve even a podium finish in the first seven years, albeit the Briton has won a sprint race. As such, the fans and pundits are quick to judge the 40-year-old and are already writing off his chances to succeed with the Italian constructor. Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur, isn’t impressed with this as he issues a stern statement against the naysayers.
Lewis Hamilton‘s highlight in the 2025 season so far has been a sprint race victory in China. Since then, Hamilton has consistently finished in points but has failed to achieve even a podium finish. Due to this, people believe that the 40-year-old might not have it in him anymore to win a title with Ferrari. Amidst the constant criticism, Fred Vasseur has urged the fans and the media to stop the unnecessary noise.
Fred Vasseur issued a distasteful statement against the naysayers who are very quick to judge Hamilton’s performance. The 56-year-old asserted that the people needed to stop the crucifixion immediately. Vasseur clarified that the 40-year-old’s not performing well for one weekend didn’t mean it was a complete disaster, or that his performance meant everything was perfect for Ferrari that day.
You have to stop this, It is not that he is doing a good weekend and everything is perfect, and when he is not having a good weekend, it is a disaster.
Fred Vasseur told media including RacingNews365.com
Vasseur reckons that they must take the situation easy and work together by staying calm. The Frenchman notes that he is delighted by the team effort showcased by Ferrari, not just for Lewis Hamilton, but also with Charles Leclerc. The 56-year-old highlighted that the team must now put all their efforts and resources towards improving their performance this year. As things are, if Maranello does not find immediate improvement, they could lose both the championship contention early on.
We just have to take it easy and stay calm and work together. I was pleased with the job the team did, not just Lewis, but Charles, the strategy and the mechanics. It is the only way for us to come back and catch up to the front. We have to work as a team and put all the efforts and resources together to catch up.

Fred Vasseur insists Lewis Hamilton ‘trying to do a better job’
Lewis Hamilton hasn’t hesitated to accept his shortcomings in performance this year as he fails to achieve a good enough spot in the drivers’ standings. Hamilton is currently just P6 in standings as he trails the championship leader, Oscar Piastri, by over 93 points. Hence, the 40-year-old must work hard on his pace if he seriously wants to improve his position in the standings this year.

Fred Vasseur insists that every single driver on the grid is actively working on themselves this season. They also want to develop something better with the team and do a better job, which Lewis Hamilton is no exception to. Vasseur clarifies that Hamilton is no magician who can fix the issues in the car overnight after a qualifying session and emerge victorious in the race on Sunday. The Frenchman reiterates that the team must stay calm and approach the problem to fix it as soon as possible.
Every single driver is working on himself, working with the team, trying to develop something, trying to do a better job. It is not that on a Saturday evening he is not well prepared, not in a good condition with the car, and then on Sunday he is a magician and everything is perfect. We just have to stay calm.
Fred Vasseur noted
Amidst Lewis Hamilton’s incessant struggles, rumors have started to creep up about him taking early retirement from the team. The 40-year-old is also cancelling his plans to work hard with the team in the factory and find improvements. As such, the Briton seems prepared to give it his all to the team. But, he will need results in order to remain interested in the team and their vision for the drivers’ title.
