Ferrari has faced several challenges in the current season to compete for the top spot. However, they claim the improvements made are much better than last year. Both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc have won races and were also secured multiple podiums. The latest Belgian GP also saw Leclerc finishing in top 3 and scoring crucial points for the team. Team principal Fred Vasseur claims that they have significantly closed the points gap between Red Bull and Max Verstappen.

Fred Vasseur emphasized that the competition between Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull and Mercedes are very close for the championship. Red Bull was the only competitive team at the beginning, however each team has improved significantly. He pointed out that it’s very rare to see four teams competing for the championship after 12 or 13 races in the season. Usually one or two teams dominate the season, but this year the situation is exciting. This is making the championship fights more exciting and unpredictable for fans and the paddock.

I think that the four teams did a similar job. It's not quite often that after 12 or 13 races you can have four teams in position to win the championship.
Fred Vasseur said, as reported by RacingNews365

Fred Vasseur mentioned that he’s not focused on statistics but noted a 60 percent increase in points earned this year. He also mentioned that Ferrari has reduced its points gap to Red Bull by 300 percent, showing significant improvement. This indicated that Ferrari is closing the distance of points and becoming much more competitive than they anticipated. Currently they sit at third position in both drivers and Constructors standing of the season and are preparing for the upcoming races to show complete dominance.

I’m not a big fan of statistics, we scored something like 60 per cent more points than one year ago after 12 races or something like this. We reduced the gap by 300 percent on Red Bull.

Fred Vasseur explains seasons progression and team performance shifts

Fred Vasseur explained that in the early part of the season, up until the China race, Red Bull was clearly the top team. However, after some races Ferrari experienced a successful run with two or three wins in their pockets. The first successful race for Ferrari was in Australia, with Carlos Sainz winning and Leclerc’s P2 finish leading a 1-2 finish.

The 26-year-old Leclerc also won in May during the Monaco GP and following this success, McLaren also started to show strong performances. Mercedes was the last to give the tough competition and winning recent races has shown they are also capable of winning the championships. This highlighted a shift in dominance among the top teams as the season progressed.

I think it's true that we had the first part of the season until China where Red Bull was flying. Then we had a good sequence for us with two or three wins, and then it was McLaren, and now it's Mercedes.
Fred Vasseur stated.

Certainly, Fred Vasseur stated that rivals didn’t let Red Bull dominate the whole season. Ferrari and others have progressed immensely over the past few races. This shows a strong indication that predicting the winner is difficult for the 2024 season. Fans are excited to watch the last 10 rounds remaining to end the season as four teams are fighting for the title.
