Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have maximized points for McLaren since the beginning of the 2025 season. The teammates are racing sanely against one another and have avoided intra-team collisions on the track. Still, Norris has committed multiple mistakes, which have allowed the Australian to take the championship lead. Now, infamous F1 team designer-turned-pundit Gary Anderson has made a shocking claim about the Briton’s championship chances against his teammate.
Oscar Piastri had declared at the start of the season that he would race his teammate hard this season and not be bound by the Papaya Rules. This has helped Piastri gain an upper hand against Lando Norris as he has achieved over five race wins this season, as compared to Norris’ two wins. The Briton committed multiple errors on track, which further deteriorated his chances of winning races.
Gary Anderson insisted that Piastri seemed more at ease with his performances compared to Norris. The 25-year-old is famously known for being too critical of his mistakes. Meanwhile, the Australian remains very laid back about his performances and minimizes any errors. Also, the 24-year-old has a ‘killer instinct’ in him that is needed for a driver to be successful in Formula 1.
At McLaren, I would say Piastri is more at ease with the situation. He is very laid back about it all, but inside there is the killer instinct that you need to have if you are to be successful in F1.
Gary Anderson mentioned on The Race.
In comparison to this, Lando Norris gets more flustered when things do not work out as planned for him. This further causes stress to the Briton and deteriorates his performance even more. Anderson highlighted that Norris has allowed small mistakes to creep into his driving, which turned the entire situation into a much bigger problem than anticipated.
As for Norris, he seems to get a bit more flustered when things don’t pan out as planned. He has allowed small mistakes that might have lost him one position to turn into a much bigger problem.

Gary Anderson anticipates accidents between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri
Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have not been involved in a major accident yet. Despite driving extremely close to one another and fighting for the better spot, the two are very respectful. However, Gary Anderson believes that being accident-free forever is next to impossible between two teammates who drive so closely together.

Gary Anderson noted that it is only a matter of time before the teammates fighting for the drivers’ title come to blows. The Irishman predicts that Piastri and Norris will soon have a crash, if not many crashes, in the coming races as the championship builds up even more. Hence, McLaren will have to deal with such issues in the near future as well.
Norris and Piastri have so far kept it clean in their battles this season, but as history tells us it’s usually only a matter of time before team-mates fighting for the world championship come to blows. Incidents and accidents will always happen and I am sure they will have a coming together at some point in the season.
Gary Anderson noted.
McLaren has remained the team to beat on the track as the rivals seem to face a tough time in matching their pace at the forefront. The team has already achieved a massive lead of over 197 points to the trailing team in Ferrari. Now, it is only a matter of time before the drivers’ championship is also done and dusted for either of the Papaya drivers in the 2025 season.
