The Qatar GP was a rude awakening for George Russell after Max Verstappen called him out for his antics. The Dutchman was given an unexpected grid penalty of one place after Russell reportedly ‘snitched’ on the pole sitter. As a result, Verstappen put forth his own perspective on the fiasco. To this, Russell took offense and gave a stern response to the championship winner.

Max Verstappen‘s pole position was snatched away after George Russell dragged the complaint of being ‘impeded’ during his out lap. Following this, Verstappen asserted that he had lost all respect for the Briton and asked him to ‘F**k off.’ Russell recalled the quotes and reckoned that he found it ‘ironic’ that the Dutchman would try to collide with the former purposefully. Subsequently, the 26-year-old highlighted that he wouldn’t ‘accept’ comments that questioned his integrity.

I find it all quite ironic, considering Saturday night he said he’s going to purposely go out of his way to crash into me and, quote, put me on my f***ing head in the wall. To question somebody’s integrity as a person, while saying comments like that the day before, I find it very ironic, and I’m not going to sit here and accept it.

Russell reiterated that all the comments from Verstappen were totally ‘disrespectful and unnecessary.’ The reason for this was that whatever happened on track during races was nothing personal. Moreover, the Briton believed that the ‘hard fight’ in the steward’s room was nothing personal as well. Following the drama, the 26-year-old concluded that the reigning world champion had taken it too far.

As I said, for me, those comments on Saturday night and Sunday were totally disrespectful and unnecessary, because what happens on track, we fight hard. It’s part of racing. What happens in the steward’s room? You fight hard, but it’s never personal. But you know, he’s taking it too far now.

Max Verstappen feels he’s ‘above the law’ in Formula 1

George Russell wasn’t mincing his words while ill-talking Verstappen and his tactics. Russell was questioned about the timing of his comment back to the Dutchman one week after the previous comments. To this, the Briton noted that he responded now only because he felt ‘disrespected as a driver.’ Subsequently, the 26-year-old highlighted that Verstappen thought of himself as ‘above the law.’

Because he’s come out in the media. I feel he has disrespected me as a driver. I’ve known him for 12 years. We’ve had respect with one another beforehand. We’ve never had any collisions, but we’ve got a guy who’s on the top of this sport and who feels he’s above the law. I don’t think that’s right.
