Mercedes’ recent upturn in performance has enabled George Russell and Lewis Hamilton to score great results. The team is seemingly set on joining the battle for championship contention in the 2024 season. Hence, amidst the recent performances, Russell secured a second-row start for the Italian GP and was extremely delighted with the result.

George Russell has continued to perform extremely well throughout the season after scoring a race victory. Russell noted that ending up in P3 was much better than what he expected. Additionally, the 26-year-old highlighted that after a tough Q1 and Q2 session, a second-row start was great.

Great ending up P3, better than I expected as it was a really tough session in Q1 and Q2 so super happy with third.

Apart from this, the Briton pointed out that he was very comfortable starting the Italian GP in third just behind the McLarens. Russell could have a solid start to the race and take the race lead early on in the session. Subsequently, the 26-year-old made a joke relating to the Italian crowd and claimed that he would have some pizzas to fuel him up.

However, the 18-year-old had a disappointing crash. Regardless, George Russell noted that he was looking forward to working alongside Antonelli in 2025.

Mercedes’ massive improvement in performance would be highly favorable for Antonelli in the coming season. However, Brackley’s current priorities are to further improve performance to establish a great position in the standings. As a result, the end-of-the-season battle would be extremely interesting to witness which team comes out on top.
