George Russell labels social media as “double-edged sword” after receiving negativity online
George Russell responded to the negative comments he faced online after the Canadian GP.

Fans criticized Mercedes online after the Canadian GP, targeting George Russell with negativity. Teammate Lewis Hamilton stood up for Russell, saying he doesn’t deserve this and he’s not the only one to blame.
George Russell spoke up on the negativity he faced, he explained this was the first time he saw negative comments directed to him. The Briton titled this situation as social media can be a ‘double-edged-sword’. He explains, social media has both positive and negative side. On the positive side, it offers many funny things to see and helps people stay updated with lots of information.
But I think social media is a really double-edged sword. There are so many funny things that you see on social media, and it keeps you up to date with so much.George Russell said

Russell further stated, However, on the negative side it often brings criticism and negative comments, especially towards race drivers and celebrities. Russell mentioned he hadn’t experienced it himself, but he knows that everyone in the spotlight faces negativity online. Lewis Hamilton had expressed his surprise over this situation.
But then on the flip side it’s not just myself but everybody in the limelight there seems to be negativity pointed towards them.George Russell added

George Russell claimed that he doesn’t check his social media handles very often. However, his account is managed by Russell himself but he works with his team and every content posted comes from him only. All the content, captions and messages are created by him, He ensures the captions and messages represents his thoughts and feelings.
Personally I don’t look on Instagram or Twitter to be honest. I still control my own account, so I work with my team and all of the content that goes out is through me, and all of the captions, everything, is all of my messaging.George Russell said

Lewis Hamilton supported George Russell during this time. The seven-time world champion said people should feel support rather than negativity from others, and Russell agreed with Hamilton’s statement. The 26-year-old said, he haven’t seen all these negative comments but heard about it. reckoned, it’s never nice to hear such things, but unfortunately this is the reality of the world we live in. Any person who is famous had to deal with all this negativity in today’s time.
Like Lewis said, you want to feel the support, not giving out negativity to others. It’s not something I’ve seen, I’ve heard about it. Of course it’s never nice to hear this stuff but that’s unfortunately the world we live in at the moment and any person in the public eye is facing.George Russell stated
Certainly, Russell believes facing negativity is normal in today’s reality. The drivers must feel support and not negativity to give a consistent performance during races which will ultimately help them and their team being better.
