The former Haas team principal, Guenther Steiner has bashed Kevin Magnussen for his crash on lap one of the Monaco Grand Prix. Magnussen crashed with Sergio Perez while attempting an overtake after turn one of the track.
The Haas F1 team has not been performing well this season and has scored only seven points in eight races. The team wanted to maximize their performance in the Monaco GP, but to their dismay, Kevin Magnussen crashed with Sergio Perez on the very first lap, taking out fellow Haas driver, Nico Hulkenberg in the process.
Guenther Steiner has shown his disappointment to Magnussen and claimed that such a move by the Danish driver was silly and unnecessary. Steiner left the Haas team at the beginning of this season after 10 years with the team.
I would say what the f***? Starting last, there's no need to do it. There's no way in Monte Carlo that with any strategy, starting last, you can get into the points. It's not going to happen. Why even try?Guenther Steiner said in The Red Flags podcast
Steiner says it’s not possible for a driver to end up in the points after starting last in a race like Monaco, and because of this, Magnussen should not have made a move the move, which cost Nico Hulkenberg as well. The Haas F1 team will now try to commit fewer errors going into the next few races to score points and improve their position in the constructors championship.
Guenther Steiner gives opinion on Alpine transfer rumors
Guenther Steiner has given his views on the current driver hunt by Alpine for the 2025 season. The Enstone-based team has been heavily rumored to sign Mick Schumacher, however, Steiner had some things to say when asked if they should go ahead with the move or not.
In the moment not, no. I think, as I said, you need to get the best driver you know is out of there. It’s one of these things. I think people were just showing that they are very good, and as a works team you need to do the best you can.Guenther Steiner said on The Red Flags podcast
Mick Schumacher was a driver for Haas during the 2021 and 2022 seasons when Steiner was the team principal. The ex-Haas boss has hence advised the Alpine team to look for better drivers for the upcoming season.
Mick Schumacher scored 12 points over the course of two seasons at Haas and was involved in a series of crashes that incurred heavy damage costs. Therefore, Guenther Steiner has urged Alpine to give a chance to other capable drivers.
