McLaren has been in fine form for the better part of the 2024 F1 season. They currently stand at the top of the constructors’ championship heading into the final race. In conversation about the Papayas, former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner and McLaren CEO Zak Brown shared a candid moment.

Zak Brown has deployed team orders for each of the drivers of the Woking-based team multiple times this season. His efforts have been to maintain transparency and equality between the teammates. The American boss has since labeled these rules as Papaya rules.

Guenther Steiner has, however, ridiculed the approach to Papaya rules in a hilarious conversation with Brown. The two laughed about it and ultimately moved on to discuss various other aspects of Formula 1.

You don’t see them developing through a weekend like that. The speed doesn’t come in. In terms of engineer level, I think they are one of the best teams. I think the best. They have engineers who can really get the most out of the car in terms of setup. Only, they have to have the time and that is not always there.

Red Bull picked up the pace after a dismal sprint race to win the Qatar Grand Prix in dominant style last Sunday. Christijan Albers therefore feels that McLaren lacks a quality of fine-tuning and development as good as the Milton Keynes unit.

The Woking-based team has nevertheless been the more accomplished team out of themselves and Red Bull this year. With the two teams headlining Formula 1, a much more exciting battle will surely brew between them in the coming years.
